Rail Service

The Canadian National (CN) and Paducah & Louisville Railway (PAL) serve the Paducah/McCracken County area.

CN connects will all Class I rail lines:

The CN is the only railroad which crosses the US both east-west and north-south connecting Canada, Mexico and the United States. The CN serves ports on the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf of Mexico allowing for easy transportation of goods such as petroleum, chemicals, grains and fertilizers, coal and other goods from Paducah to major U.S. and international destinations.

The PAL connects with 5 Class I railroads at three locations:

  • In Paducah, P&L connects with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) and the Canadian National (CN) railroads.
  • In Madisonville, P&L connects with CSX Transportation (CSXT).
  • In Louisville, P&L connects with the CP Rail System (CPRS), CSX Transportation (CSXT), and Norfolk Southern Corporation (NS).

The PAL currently operates over 270 route miles of track in the western half of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Its 223-mile main line runs between Paducah and Louisville. As a short line railroad, P&L can negotiate highly competitive rates with national carriers.

The PAL serves several rail-barge-rail transfer facilities on the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers and offers service to the local industrial parks. The PAL currently handles approximately 200,000 cars annually, originating or terminating 99% of these loads at industries located along its rail line.
